Voter Registration Deadline Approaching for April 1 Election

Sequoyah County residents who wish to vote in the upcoming April 1 Board of Education Municipal General Election must ensure they are registered before the March 7 deadline, according to Sequoyah County Election Board Secretary Ruby Brunk.

To be eligible, applicants must be United States citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 17½ years old. However, individuals must be 18 years old by Election Day to cast a ballot.

Voter registration applications must be received by the County Election Board or postmarked by midnight on March 7. Any applications postmarked after this date will be processed after the April 1 election. Voters may also submit applications at motor vehicle agencies that serve as official voter registration sites.

Once applications are processed, approved voters will receive a Voter Identification Card in the mail. Those whose applications are not approved will receive a letter explaining the reason. Voters who do not receive a response within 30 days should contact the County Election Board immediately.

Brunk reminds residents that the County Election Board Secretary must approve valid voter registration applications. Additionally, registered voters who have moved to Sequoyah County from another county or state must submit a new Voter Registration Application to be eligible to vote in local elections.

Residents who need to update their address within the county can do so online through the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp or by completing a Voter Registration Application.

For questions or more information contact the Sequoyah County Election Board at 918-775-2614. The County Election Board is located at 110 E. Creek Ave., Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
