Sarah Darcy
Wednesday, July 20, 2022 - A Sallisaw woman was charged July 18 with possession of contraband in a penal institution, court records show.
Sarah Dawn Darcy, 24, faces up to one year in prison, a fine of up to $500 or both if she is convicted of the felony charge.
According to the affidavit filed in the case, on July 12, a Sequoyah County dispatcher requested an officer’s presence at the Police Department.
When the officer arrived, he was asked to search a handbag belonging to Darcy, an inmate who was in the booking area pending release.
The dispatcher said she was with Darcy in booking having her sign release papers. Darcy said she was hot and asked if she could change out of her jeans because she had shorts on underneath. The dispatcher gave her permission, then opened a room inside the booking area. Darcy took a clear bag from her property and asked if the door could be closed. The dispatcher closed the door and went back to dispatch to notify an SPD captain that she believed Darcy was trying to hide something.
The captain told the dispatcher to return and check on Darcy. When the woman went back to the room, she heard what sounded like a lighter clicking. The dispatcher opened the door and saw Darcy sitting down holding a black and yellow lighter in her right hand and aluminum foil in her left. Darcy immediately jumped to her feet and stated that she was trying to throw away the foil.
An SPD officer then began to search Darcy’s handbag, which reportedly contained multiple pieces of foil with a burned brown residue on them.
After being booked on the contraband charge, Darcy was transported to the Sequoyah County Jail.
