Ropes Course available for scheduling

Tuesday, May 24, 2022 - People Inc. in Sallisaw is now booking ropes courses for groups, organizations, and teams for summer and fall 2022. The ropes course is open to youth that are 9 to 17 years of age and is free of charge.

People Inc.’s ropes course coordinator and counselor Lindsie Dyer said, "The Ropes Course is designed for participants to build trust, learn decision-making skills, improve teamwork, self-esteem, and problem-solving skills. Through the challenges of the course, participants are able to discover their own personal courage and strengths."

Many may be wondering what exactly is a ropes course. Ropes courses are challenging outdoor team-building activities that consist of both low and high elements. Low elements take place on the ground or a few feet above the ground, while the high elements are constructed through the use of utility poles, which require a belay, harness, and helmet for safety.

"All ropes course participants are encouraged by our trained facilitators to push their limits. However, no one is ever made to complete an obstacle they are uncomfortable with, "Dyer added.

Participants are asked to wear closed-toed shoes and loose-fitting clothing on the day of the course. It is also recommended to bring a cooling towel for courses held during the summer months. Snacks, water, and Gatorade are provided throughout the day for all attendees.

Dyer stated, "Our course begins with facilitator-led stretching before moving onto the lower elements of the course. We provide all groups with a free lunch around 11:00 a.m. before moving onto the more challenging high elements of the course."

The ropes course is located at 205 S. JT Stites Blvd in Sallisaw and can be booked Monday-Friday. If you are interested in signing up your group, contact Lindsie Dyer at 918-775-7787, Ext. 2441.
