Commissioners extend burn ban

Tuesday, October 18, 2022 - Sequoyah County commissioners met Monday morning for their regular weekly meeting at the courthouse.

A resolution regarding the current burn ban in place for Sequoyah County citizens was discussed by commissioners. Once discussion was completed, commissioners voted unanimously to support the resolution by extending the county's burn ban for an additional 14 days.

While some areas in the county received rain on Sunday, others were not as lucky. Even for those that saw rain, it was not enough to extinguish the ongoing fire threat in the county.

High winds and the first freeze of the season are expected this week, adding to the already existing dead vegetation in the area. Officials will reconvene in two weeks to review conditions at that time.

In addition, commissioners opened and accepted bids for asphalt overlay projects for Sequoyah County districts 1, 2, and 3.

In new business, county commissioners approved the fiscal year 2022–2023 Sequoyah county budget.
