Weekly Summer Food Distribution Underway for Local Children

Sunday, June 7, 2026 — Families in Sequoyah County will have an opportunity to receive free food for their children this summer through a weekly food distribution program hosted by the Summer Meals Team of the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.

The drive-through program is being held every Wednesday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Sallisaw Health and Wellness Center. Food boxes are available for children from birth through 18 years of age and are designed to help families meet nutritional needs while school is out for the summer.

Each food box contains enough food for five days, and eligible children may receive one box per week throughout the program.

Parents or guardians picking up food boxes for their own children are not required to have the children present at the time of pickup. However, individuals collecting food boxes for children outside of their household must have those children present when receiving the food.

The program is intended to help ensure local children have access to nutritious meals during the summer months when school meal programs may not be available.

The Sallisaw Health and Wellness Center serves as the weekly distribution site, and families are encouraged to take advantage of the free resource throughout the summer.
