"Walk & Roll to School Day" takes place tomorrow, October 5

Wednesday, October 4, 2023 - Eastside and Liberty Elementary in Sallisaw are participating in "Walk to School Day" on Thursday, October 5 (weather permitting).

The event organizer with the TSET Healthy Living Program of Sequoyah County, Jayna Tillman, along with several community partners, are asking residents to join children and adults around the world to celebrate the benefits of walking and bicycling.

Students and parents who wish to participate will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the RINK parking lot, located at 128 Sioux St. near the corner of Choctaw and Sioux St. in Sallisaw.

Together, students, parents, and guardians will walk from Sioux St., turn right on Fryar Dr., right on Ida Ave., and up the first drive (just before the playground) to the sidewalk beside the school cafeteria.

Regular walkers can walk to the RINK parking lot and walk with everyone, or they can plan to walk their regular route.

Water and healthy snacks will be provided by the TSET Healthy Living Program of Sequoyah County. All students must be accompanied by their parents.

Staff will be present, including the following sponsors: City of Sallisaw, Sallisaw NOW Coalition, Cherokee Nation Public Health, People Inc., CREOKS Health Services, OSU Extension, and the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
