Vian Police Department Establishes Safe Zone for Child Custody Exchanges

Wednesday October, 14, 2026 — The Vian Police Department has established a safe zone for child custody exchanges, providing families with a designated location to help make these often-sensitive transitions safer.
Recently, the department added domestic violence awareness ribbons painted at the location, along with a new sign to identify the designated area. The project was completed in October, which is recognized nationally as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The Vian Police Department is extending the use of the safe zone to families from any jurisdiction, allowing parents and guardians outside the Vian area to utilize the location for child custody exchanges.

The department also encourages domestic violence advocates and courts to recommend the service to families who may benefit from having a designated location for exchanges. By making the space available to families throughout the region, the department hopes to provide an additional resource for parents and guardians navigating custody arrangements, particularly in situations where safety is a concern.
The Vian Police Department expressed its appreciation to Simon’s Home Center, A OK Printing and Signs, and Vian town employees for their assistance in completing the project.
The safe zone serves as a reminder of the importance of community partnerships and local resources in supporting family safety and raising awareness of domestic violence.
