Thursday, November 10, 2022 - Veterans Day is a day set aside each year to honor veterans who have served or are currently serving in any branch of America’s armed forces.
On Friday, November 11, many activities and events will be taking place throughout Sequoyah County to honor these much deserving veterans. A few of these events will include the following:
Vian Public Schools will host a breakfast and program for veterans on Friday. The Vian FFA Chapter will prepare breakfast, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the high school library. At 9:30 a.m., a program will be held in the cafeteria, presented by Vian’s FCCLA. Veterans are asked to fill out an information card as they enter, so their service can be recognized during the program.
The Student Council at Gore High School will host their 25th annual Veterans Day program at 10 a.m. at the Event Center located at 1200 North Highway 10. Following the program, veterans and a guest are invited to attend a free lunch at the high school cafeteria.
The American Legion Post 27 and the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce will hold their 2022 Veterans Day ceremony at the Indian Capital Technology Center at 11 a.m. Special guests will include Sallisaw Mayor Ernie Martens, Master of Ceremonies Frank Sullivan III, and guest speaker John Bennett, among others.
Marble City Public School invites veterans to attend a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. in the school cafeteria. Following the ceremony, veterans and their spouses will be treated to a free Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner will also be available to parents and other guests for $5 per meal.
Muldrow Public Schools will be hosting a Veterans Day Drive-Thru Celebration Parade beginning at 1:30 p.m. The parade will begin at the Muldrow Fire Department, pass by Muldrow Elementary School, and proceed west on Shawntel Smith Blvd. towards Muldrow Middle School and end at Muldrow High School.
All veterans are welcome to be a part of this celebration and join in on the caravan. The parade lineup will be on SE 1st Street by the Muldrow Fire Station at 1:15 p.m. The community is invited to show their appreciation for our veterans by waving as they pass by on the parade route.
The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) will be offering free admission for all veterans and a guest to the first round of the Oklahoma high school football playoffs this year. Simply show your military ID card or driver's license that shows your military status at the gate on Friday, and you and a guest will be admitted free of charge.
If you see a veteran out in the community, make sure to honor them by showing appreciation and thanking them for their service!
