Veterans Day ceremonies planned

Wednesday, November 10, 2021 - Veteran’s Day is recognized each year on November 11, in many unique ways. Maybe you like to show your respect by volunteering at a local veterans' organization, maybe you attend ceremonies within your community, or maybe you’re a teacher and prepare lesson plans to teach youth the meaning behind this day. Regardless of how you celebrate, there is one commonality. It’s a day we say thank you for the bravery, sacrifices, and love our veterans have given to their country.

Below is a list of events in our area that are being held November 11 to honor our veterans.

The American Legion Post 27 and the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce will hold their 2021 Veterans Day Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. The ceremony will be held at the Sequoyah County fairgrounds on East Redwood Street and will include a flag retirement ceremony, the posting of colors, music, and much more. Frank Sullivan III will be the Master of Ceremonies and will be Introducing the guest speaker, US Air Force Lt. Col. Casey Eubanks, commanding officer of the 123rd Intel Squadron. Anyone that wishes to dedicate a flag in honor of a deceased loved one should arrive by 10:15 a.m. to provide their information. The first 25 names submitted will be used. Everyone is welcome to come and honor our veterans.

Vian Public Schools will host a Veterans Breakfast and Program. The FFA members, under the direction of Mr. Trent Trotter, will prepare and serve breakfast, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Vian High School Library. The Veteran’s program will begin at 9:30a.m. in the cafetorium and will be presented by the Vian FCCLA and the Vian Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Stephanie Bennett and Mrs. Christina Herriman. Veterans are being asked to enter through the cafetorium to fill out information cards so their service can be personally recognized during the program. All veterans are invited to attend.

Muldrow Public Schools will be hosting a Veterans Day Drive-Thru Celebration parade beginning at 1:30 p.m. The parade will begin at the Muldrow Fire Department, pass by Muldrow Elementary School, and proceed west on Shawntel Smith Blvd. towards Muldrow Middle School and end at Muldrow High School. All veterans are welcome to be a part of this celebration and join in on the caravan. The parade lineup will be on SE 1st Street by the Muldrow Fire Station at 1:15 p.m. The community is invited to show their appreciation for our veterans by waving as they pass by on the parade route.

Brushy Public Schools will be hosting a Veterans Day Breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m. There will also be a Veterans’ Day assembly after breakfast, beginning at 9 a.m. All veterans are invited and welcome to attend.

Due to COVID concerns, Marble City Public School will be hosting their Veterans’ Day program next week on November 17, 2021. They will be honoring all who have served with a program that will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the cafeteria. All veterans are welcome.
