Three-vehicle accident sends three to the hospital

Saturday, July 15, 2023 - A three-vehicle accident occurred Friday at approximately 10:45 a.m. sending three people to the hospital. The accident took place on US Highway 59 and OK-141, 3 ½ miles south of Sallisaw.


According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) report, Jimmy Johnson, 28, of Sallisaw was driving a 2006 Dodge Dakota and failed to yield while crossing the intersection of US-59 and OK-141 causing his vehicle to be struck in the passenger side door.


Johnson’s vehicle was struck by Troy Glenn, 52, of Poteau who was driving a 2013 Ford F150. After striking Johnson, Glenn’s vehicle then struck another vehicle head on while it was stopped at the stop sign on OK-141 and trying to merge onto US-59.


Carrie Armstrong, 51, of Muldrow was the driver of the third vehicle, a 2019 Chevy Equinox.


Johnson was transported by Mercy Life Flight to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa and admitted in stable condition with head external injuries.


Glenn was transported by Pafford EMS to NHS Sequoyah in Sallisaw where he was treated and released.


Armstrong was transported by Life Flight to St Francis Hospital in Tulsa where she was treated and released.


A passenger in Armstrong’s vehicle, Edward Armstrong, 54, of Muldrow was uninjured.


The cause of the accident is listed as under investigation.


The OHP was assisted at the scene by the Sallisaw Fire Department, Pafford EMS, Mercy Life Flight and Life Flight.
