The Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce awarded the City of Sallisaw as member of the month during last week's membership luncheon at ICTC.
Incorporated in 1886, the City of Sallisaw is chartered and operates under the Council-Manager form of government. The board of city commissioners serves as the legislative body for the city. The board is made up of 4 commissioners and a mayor, who are all elected by the citizens of their respective wards except for the mayor, who is elected at large.

The current city commissioners include Ward 1 Kenny Moody, Ward 2 Josh Bailey, Ward 3 Pancho Mendiola, Ward 4 Brad Hamilton, and Mayor Ernie Martens.
The city council oversees the city's manager, who acts as the city executive. In June of 2024, after the retirement of city manager Keith Skelton, Assistant City Manager and Finance Director Robin Haggard was appointed to serve as the interim city manager.
As a full-service municipality, the City of Sallisaw has 149 full-time employees to provide essential services such as water, wastewater, electricity, telecommunications, police, fire, parts, airport, animal control, sanitation and landfill, building development, library, and cemetery.
Always striving to improve, Sallisaw has several projects in various stages of development. A sampling of the current projects includes the aquatics facility, skateboard park, street asphalt program, lift station improvements, sewer line improvements, wastewater treatment plant improvements, airport improvements, and electric system improvements.
Sallisaw continues to make progress and grow economically as well. Existing businesses within the city plan to add more than 2300 primary jobs over the next 5-8 years with an investment of more than 350 million dollars.
Sallisaw will continue to offer a strong foundation for its citizens and visitors through its dedication to excellence and continual improvement.
