Storm Spotter Training Scheduled in Sallisaw March 30

March 5, 2026 — Residents will have a chance later this month to learn more about severe weather safety during a Storm Spotter training class hosted by Sequoyah County Emergency Management Director Todd Harris.

The class is scheduled for Monday, March 30, at 6 p.m. at the Indian Capital Technology Center in Sallisaw and will be taught by meteorologists from the National Weather Service office in Tulsa.

The training is open to the public and encourages anyone with an interest in weather safety to attend.

Storm Spotter classes provide important information on identifying severe weather features such as tornadoes, wall clouds, hail, and damaging winds, as well as how to safely and accurately report weather conditions to emergency officials and meteorologists.

Local storm spotters play a key role during severe weather events by providing real-time ground reports that help forecasters confirm radar data and issue timely warnings to the public.

The class is free to attend, and no prior weather experience is required. Anyone interested in learning how to recognize severe weather and assist their community during storm season is encouraged to participate.
