Shelter Insurance Recognized as Sallisaw Chamber Member of the Month

Saturday, September 26, 2026 -The Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce recognized longtime community leader and local businessman Randall Baker as its Member of the Month during the Chamber’s September membership meeting.

Baker, known by many simply as “Rat,” has served as a local shelter insurance agent for the past eight years. Before becoming an agent, he spent five years as an affiliate agent for George Glenn.

Baker spent 22 years in education at Roland, beginning as a fifth- and sixth-grade teacher before becoming a principal. He later served as principal at Roland Elementary before moving to Sallisaw, where he became principal of Liberty Elementary.

Baker said his father-in-law, George Glenn, instilled in him the importance of supporting the Chamber and other local civic organizations beginning in the early 1990s.

Baker has been a Sallisaw firefighter for more than 25 years and has held the rank of captain for the past six years. He has also served four years on the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce Board.

Baker and his wife, Tracy, have been married for 35 years. Together, they have three daughters, two sons-in-law, and six grandchildren.

The Bakers are also involved in several Sallisaw businesses, including Shelter Insurance, Pack Rat’s Trailer Sales, Baker Rentals, and Pack Rat's Storage.

Outside of his businesses and civic involvement, Baker is an active supporter of the Black Diamonds and serves as a deacon at Fellowship Baptist Church, where he also teaches Sunday school.

The September Chamber meeting also included updates on upcoming community events and projects, including the Sallisaw Main Street Fall Festival scheduled for October 10, Halloween on Elm Street on October 31, the Sequoyah County Times Women’s Expo on October 15, the Real Choices Pregnancy Center banquet on October 13, Fields of Faith on September 30, and the Merchant’s Christmas Open House November 14 and 15.

Keynote speakers included Sinue Rodrique, with the Sallisaw High School soccer team, and the Vista team, and Chad Jasna, who provided an update on Sallisaw Public School's alternative education program.
