March 13, 2026 — The Sequoyah County Coordinated Community Response and the Sequoyah County Sexual Assault Response Team will host a Paw Glow Stick Awareness Walk on Thursday, April 9, at the walking trail at the Sallisaw Sports Complex. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
This year’s walk will include participation from the Sallisaw Animal Shelter, which will be on site with shelter dogs available for attendees who would like a four-legged walking partner. Community members are also encouraged to bring their pets to take part in the evening event.
The animal shelter will be accepting donations during the walk, including leashes, collars, dog food, and toys to help support animals in its care. Free glow sticks will be provided to participants as they walk the trail in support of the awareness effort.
The event is part of activities recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month, which focuses on educating the public, supporting survivors, and encouraging conversations that help break the stigma surrounding sexual violence.
Organizers say the annual walk has become a meaningful way for community members to come together in support of survivors while raising awareness about the issue.
For more information or questions about participating, community members can contact Special Victims Advocate Sarah Ridinger at s.ridinger@scsok.org.
