Friday, October 30, 2026 — Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane is encouraging students to make a positive impact in their schools through a character-building initiative that recognizes students for going above and beyond to help others.

Launched at the start of the school year, the initiative provides school resource officers (SROs) with special badge stickers to hand out to students they see demonstrating good character through acts of kindness, helpfulness, or simply just making someone’s day a little bit brighter.

Recently, Moffett School Resource Officer Daniel New recognized two of Mrs. Cauthron's second-grade students, Makiah Jennings and Everleigh Gomez, for their outstanding kindness and helpfulness.

According to school staff, both girls consistently demonstrate the qualities the initiative is designed to encourage and are shining examples of what positive character looks like in the classroom and throughout the school.

While the badges may be small, Lane hopes the recognition will leave a lasting impression by reinforcing the importance of respect, kindness, responsibility, and looking out for others.
