Sequoyah County Jr. Livestock Show set for February 5-7

The Sequoyah County Junior Livestock Show is celebrating its 60th year and is set to take place February 5-7 at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds in Sallisaw. This highly anticipated event showcases the dedication and hard work of local FFA and 4-H students as they present their livestock projects.


The show kicks off on Wednesday, February 5, with check-in for sheep, goats, and cattle from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., where all animals will undergo sifting and weighing. At noon, the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly membership meeting, allowing area FFA students to demonstrate their

public speaking skills. The evening program will begin at 5 p.m., featuring competitions for goats, lambs, heifers, and steers, with sale orders and showmanship contests following each category.


On Thursday, February 6, swine check-in will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. At 10 a.m., the annual 4-H "Dress to Impress" contest will be held, open to all county school 4-H students. That evening at 5 p.m., the Breeding Gilt Jackpot and Market Barrows show will take center stage, followed by the barrow sale order and swine showmanship competitions.


The event will conclude on Friday, February 7, with the Bidder’s BBQ at 6 p.m., leading up to the Premium Auction at 7 p.m. Local auctioneer Tommy Wright will take the stage as exhibitors present their top livestock for bidding.


Livestock judges for this year’s event include Whitney Urban (Cattle), Camden Urban (Goats and Sheep), and Brandon Spears (Swine).


Community members are encouraged to attend and support the hardworking students who have dedicated their time and effort to raising and preparing their livestock for this special event.


The Sequoyah County Fairgrounds is located at 464101 E. 1070 Rd., East Redwood and Shirley, in Sallisaw. Mark your calendars and come out to support the next generation of agricultural leaders!
