Sunday, June 22, 2025 — Communities across Sequoyah County are preparing to light up the skies with fireworks, live music, and family-friendly activities in celebration of Independence Day. From lakeside shows to small-town festivals, there's no shortage of red, white, and blue fun for the whole family.
As the summer sun rises over Sequoyah County, excitement is building in towns across the area for one of the most anticipated times of the year, Independence Day. From lakeside shows to small-town festivals, communities are putting the final touches on celebrations that promise to unite residents in a shared spirit of patriotism, fun, and community pride.
The first sparks of celebration will ignite in Marble City on Saturday, June 28, as the town hosts its annual Fourth of July festival from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Families are invited to bring lawn chairs and settle in for an evening of kids’ activities, water inflatables, face painting, and games. A local farmers's and art market will be open until dark, offering handmade goods, fresh produce, and treats. A special Veterans and Military Recognition Ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m., followed by live music from The Country Boys. The evening will close with a stunning fireworks show, proudly presented by the Marble City Volunteer Fire Association and supported by U.S. Lime, the MCVFD, MCPD, and the Cherokee Nation.
Just a few days later, on Thursday, July 3, the town of Vian will host its traditional Fireworks Extravaganza, but with a twist. Due to new turf construction at the high school football field, this year’s event moves to Armstrong Park Amphitheater. The celebration kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a concert, food and drink vendors, and a festive atmosphere for all ages. Following the music, a short intermission presented by the Vian Community Foundation will lead into the night’s fireworks show, promising new memories in a new location.
On Friday, July 4, the county's largest celebrations will fill the skies. In Sallisaw, the city and Chamber of Commerce are inviting families to gather at the Sallisaw High School complex for an evening of community games, family fun, and a classic fireworks display at dusk. Local churches will be on hand with activities for children, and residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the show.
Also on July 4, the Lake Tenkiller Independence Day Fireworks Spectacle will continue as one of the most iconic celebrations in the region, but with an important update. The fireworks show is still ON, just with a new location this year. Due to increased safety concerns on the water, the show has been moved from the lake itself to Blackgum Landing. Organizers promise the same magical experience, just in a safer and more accessible setting. Whether arriving by boat or by land, guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, their patriotic spirit, and prepare for a spectacular show that lights up the sky in true Tenkiller fashion. Family-friendly events at the nearby Nature Center will still take place throughout the day.
The festivities continue into the weekend with Roland’s Iron Mountain Festival & Freedom Celebration on Saturday, July 5. The Roland Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Town of Roland, hosts the event, which begins at 4:00 p.m. at Roland City Park. A full evening of entertainment awaits with food trucks, live music, vendor booths, and children’s attractions, including bounce houses and a SplatRBall course. The Mix 105.1 will also be on-site and broadcasting live, keeping the energy high as the evening unfolds. As night falls, the event concludes with one of the largest fireworks displays in Eastern Oklahoma, drawing visitors from across the region.
This year’s Independence Day celebrations in Sequoyah County offer something for everyone, regardless of age. Whether you’re exploring the farmers and art market in Marble City, watching fireworks dance across Lake Tenkiller, or celebrating under the stars in Roland, one thing is certain, the spirit of freedom will shine bright all weekend long.
