ree

Monday, September 15, 2025 — The Sequoyah County Boys & Girls Club, in partnership with Sallisaw Public Schools, has announced plans for the construction of a new, state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance educational, recreational, and developmental opportunities for children and families throughout the community.

The new building will feature a gymnasium with separate entrances for the school and the club, multiple classrooms, activity rooms, administrative offices, a board meeting space, and a kitchen, ensuring that both organizations can operate effectively within a shared space. The facility will be situated adjacent to Liberty Elementary in Sallisaw, offering a convenient and accessible location for students and their families.

The project is being made possible in part through funding from an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant, which covers a portion of the construction costs. However, the grant does not fully fund the project. To ensure the completion of the facility as envisioned, the Boys & Girls Club will be launching a capital campaign to raise the additional funds needed. Community members, businesses, and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the campaign, with contributions helping to secure a facility that will have a lasting impact on local youth.

Groundbreaking for the facility is anticipated in the near future, with tentative completion targeted for the 2026–2027 school year. Upon completion, the facility will provide a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where children can develop academically, socially, and emotionally. The design will enable the Boys & Girls Club to operate on one side of the building, while Sallisaw Public Schools utilize the other, creating a collaborative hub that fosters both educational and enrichment programming.

Leaders from both organizations emphasized that the new facility represents a significant investment in the future of Sequoyah County youth. By combining educational resources with recreational and developmental programs, the partnership aims to equip children with the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to succeed in school, in their communities, and in life.
