Tuesday, April 14, 2026 — The Sequoyah County Boys and Girls Club is preparing to celebrate a major milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony for its new gym and club facility later this month.
The ceremony is scheduled for April 22 at 1:30 p.m. at 1120 E. Ida Street in Sallisaw. Community members, supporters, and alumni are all invited to attend and take part in the special event.
Sequoyah County Boys and Girls Club CEO Laura Kuykendall said the moment marks the culmination of years of planning and dedication.
“We are extremely excited about the groundbreaking ceremony,” Kuykendall said. “We have been working on this project for a long time, and to see it become a reality feels surreal.”
The new facility will serve as a shared space with Sallisaw Public Schools, expanding opportunities for youth by providing additional space for programs, recreation, and community engagement.
Kuykendall also expressed appreciation for the support that helped bring the project to this point.
“From me, to the board of directors, to club staff, we would like to say thank you for the community support and helping us make it to this point,” she said.
As the organization looks ahead, Kuykendall is encouraging former members and the community to be part of the celebration.
“Once a member, always a member,” she added. “We invite all alumni and our Sallisaw community to join us for this special occasion.”
The groundbreaking ceremony represents a significant step forward for the Boys and Girls Club’s mission to serve youth and strengthen the Sequoyah County community.
