Tuesday, February 8, 2022 - It's election day in Sequoyah County with both Sallisaw and Vian voters heading to the polls to cast their ballot.
Sallisaw residents will be voting on two separate issues.
Current Sallisaw City Commissioner Ronnie Lowe will face off against Julie Oliver to retain his seat as City Council for Ward #1. Lowe has served on the Sallisaw City Council since 2013.
Sallisaw voters will also determine whether or not to approve a half-cent sales tax extension. If approved the funds would be used to build a new swim complex to replace the current pool, at the existing location. The extension would also allow for the construction of a new skateboard park.
Vian residents will decide whether or not to approve the issuance of $8,930,000 in school bonds to fund a new high school.
Polls are open today until 7 p.m.
