Sallisaw woman hurt in crash near Roland

Tuesday, August 3, 2021 - A 43-year-old Sallisaw woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday morning at the intersection of U.S. Highway 64 and Cosner Road, about three miles east of Roland.

Amy Lasiter was transported by Pafford EMS to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Ark., where she was admitted in stable condition with head, arm and leg injuries after the 8:33 a.m. accident. An unnamed 14-year-old female passenger in Lasiter’s car was treated at the scene and released.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Michael Wheeler, 36, of Paris, Ark., was traveling eastbound on Highway 64 when the truck suddenly departed the roadway to the left, crossed the center median and struck Lasiter’s 2006 Cadillac Escalade.

The impact of the collision caused the Escalade to roll several times, leaving Lasiter pinned in the wreck for about 35 minutes before being extricated by the Roland Fire Department.

Wheeler was treated and released at the scene.
