Sallisaw Police Department Releases Statement Following Train Accident

Friday, April 24, 2026 — The Sallisaw Police Department released a statement this morning regarding Thursday’s train-related accident involving a pedestrian in Sallisaw.

 

According to police, the incident occurred on April 23 at approximately 4:10 p.m. just north of EZ Mart near the intersection of South Kerr Boulevard and West Cherokee Avenue, where a 57-year-old man was struck by a northbound Union Pacific train.

 

Emergency responders arrived quickly on scene and transported the individual to a medical facility for treatment. As of Friday morning, he was listed in critical but stable condition.

 

Following the accident, nearby railroad crossings in the area were shut down for several hours Thursday evening as emergency crews responded and authorities conducted their investigation.

 

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under active investigation.
