Tuesday, April 29, 2025 – In recognition of National Fentanyl Awareness Day, the Sallisaw NOW Coalition held a proclamation signing on Tuesday at the Stanley Tubbs Memorial Library to raise public awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and promote prevention strategies within the community.
Sallisaw Mayor Ernie Martens was present for the event and signed the proclamation on behalf of the City of Sallisaw, reaffirming the city’s commitment to addressing the growing threat of fentanyl-related overdoses and deaths.
The Sallisaw NOW Coalition, which works to reduce substance abuse through education and advocacy, organized the event to highlight the importance of local collaboration in fighting the opioid crisis.
National Fentanyl Awareness Day is observed annually to inform the public about the rising risks associated with illicit fentanyl, especially among youth and unsuspecting users who may not know they are consuming a substance that contains the powerful synthetic opioid.
