Sallisaw Mayor Proclaims April as Alcohol Awareness Month

Tuesday, April 15, 2025 — On Monday, April 14, 2025, Mayor Ernie Martens formally declared April as Alcohol Awareness Month for the City of Sallisaw with the signing of a proclamation held on the Stanley Tubbs Memorial Library lawn.

The event, held at 4 p.m., was organized by the Sallisaw NOW Coalition and was attended by multiple community partners and advocates. The proclamation is part of the coalition’s broader mission to promote education and prevention efforts around alcohol misuse throughout the community.

Alcohol Awareness Month is observed nationwide each April and is intended to reduce the stigma surrounding alcohol dependency while encouraging individuals and communities to engage in open conversations and awareness activities.

Sallisaw NOW Coalition Special Projects Coordinator Heather Silva stated, “The proclamation serves as a reminder of the importance of alcohol awareness, particularly among youth and families. By bringing attention to the issue, we can help support prevention efforts and encourage healthier choices in our community.”
