Sallisaw Mayor Ernie Martens proclaimed Oct. 28-Oct. 31 as Red Ribbon Week during a proclamation signing held outside of the Stanley Tubbs Memorial Library Monday afternoon.
The proclamation encourages all citizens to participate in drug prevention activities during Red Ribbon Week and to extend those activities throughout the year to show the community is strongly committed to a drug-free lifestyle.
The proclamation signing, hosted by the Sallisaw NOW Coalition, was accompanied by the organization’s pledge to actively support Red Ribbon Week through various prevention initiatives.
Red Ribbon Week is an annual campaign held in October to promote drug-free lifestyles among young people and communities across the United States.
Schools, community organizations, and local governments participate in the initiative with various events, themed days, and educational programs to spread awareness about the importance of making healthy, substance-free choices.
