Sallisaw man struck and killed by train

Sunday, September 10, 2023 - A Sallisaw man was struck and killed by a train Sunday morning.


According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) report, Jason Shockey, 29, was struck by a General Electric train engine at approximately 8:23 a.m.


The collision took place one-half mile east of the North Shurley St. railroad crossing, approximately one mile east of Sallisaw. The report states that the train was traveling eastbound on Union Pacific tracks when it struck Shockey. He was pronounced deceased on scene by Pafford EMS.

The OHP was assisted by the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office, Pafford EMS, Sallisaw Police Department, Sallisaw Fire Department and Union Pacific.
