Wednesday, May 17, 2023 - A Sallisaw man perished Wednesday, May 17, due to injuries sustained in a May 9 traffic accident.
The collision took place at approximately 4:37 p.m. on S 4620 Rd and E 1040 Rd, one mile north of Sallisaw.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), Derek Christenberry, 30, of Sallisaw was driving southbound on S 4620 road. Glen Freshour, 68, of Sallisaw, was eastbound coming to a stop sign and stopping at the intersection of E 1040 and and S 4620. Freshour turned onto S 4620 and was struck in the driver's side by Christenberry.
Freshour was pinned in his vehicle for approximately 20 minutes before being extricated by the Brushy and Sallisaw Fire Departments. He was life-flighted to St Francis Hospital in Tulsa where he was admitted in critical condition with head and trunk internal injuries. Freshour perished from the injuries Wednesday morning at 6:45 a.m.
Christenberry and a passenger in his vehicle were uninjured.
The OHP report listed the cause of the accident as failure to yield from stop sign.
