Tuesday, September 23, 2025 — A 20-year-old Sallisaw man is in critical condition after being shot in the head and left along South 4580 Road, just outside the Sallisaw city limits, late Saturday night.
Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane said the victim, whose name has not been released, was flown to a hospital in Northwest Arkansas.
According to investigators, a passing driver reported seeing a vehicle speeding away from the area before finding the man lying on the roadside. Due to the remote location, officials stated that the victim may not have been discovered quickly without that call.
Deputies arrested 21-year-old Robert Skelton of Sallisaw early Sunday morning, September 21. Skelton is facing a charge of aggravated assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
Investigators also located a gray Jaguar SUV believed to have been involved and are processing it for evidence. Sheriff Lane confirmed that while one suspect is in custody, additional arrests remain possible as the investigation continues.
