Gumaro Perez-Pelcastre
Friday, March 18, 2022 - A Sallisaw man was charged March 3 with driving under the influence of alcohol, a felony punishable by up to one year in prison and a fine of $1,000.
Gumaro Perez-Pelcastre, 39, was also charged with transporting an open container of an alcoholic beverage.
A probable cause affidavit reveals that on Feb. 28, a Sallisaw police officer was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Opdyke and Iola.
When the officer arrived, he spoke with Perez-Pelcastre, who was involved in the crash. After the nervous man fumbled with his insurance verification, the officer walked to the back of his pickup and noticed an open 12-pack of beer in the driver’s side of the truck’s bed.
When asked if he had been drinking that day, Perez-Pelcastre told the officer the beer was for “the guys that work with me.”
After Perez-Pelcastre submitted to field-sobriety tests, which he failed, he was arrested.
