Sallisaw man charged with burning documents

Thursday, September, 1, 2022 - An arrest warrant was issued Aug. 19 for Billy Gene Ackerson, 24, of Sallisaw for destroying written instruments, a felony, court records show.

On Aug. 7, a Sequoyah County sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a Sallisaw residence so McKenzie Ackerson could make a report against her husband.

When the deputy arrived, McKenzie Ackerson stated that she got in an argument with her husband, Billy Gene Ackerson, over money that was taken out of their bank account. She said her husband became angry and burned her car title and birth certificate and had sent her photos of the items on fire.

McKenzie Ackerson said that when she told her husband she was going to file charges against him for destroying her property, he became even angrier and told her their son would be “left without a father and a mother.”
