Sallisaw football coach speaks to chamber members

Sallisaw Head Football Coach Mark Hutson

Thursday, August 25, 2022 - The monthly membership meeting for the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce was held on August 24 at the ICTC community building. The spotlight was shined on this month’s keynote speaker, head football coach for the Sallisaw Black Diamonds, Mark Hutson.

Hutson, who is originally from Ft. Smith, came to Sallisaw High School in February 2022, bringing with him an impressive resume. Hutson, who has previously coached at the pro and college levels, said that he has often been asked if he enjoys coming down to coach at the high school level.

Hutson responds, "Yes, I am really enjoying it and I am proud to be here. I will say that this community has been the most overwhelming part of this experience for me. The pride, support, and investment put into these young athletes within this community is incredible. "

Last week, The MIX 105.1 hosted the Sallisaw’s annual live online auction to help raise over $60,000. This is a record-setting amount to date. Hutson will debut his coaching talents as the team takes on Stigler in the season opener at Sigler High School on August 26 at 7 p.m.

Next on the meeting’s agenda was chamber board president Treye Girdner, who introduced the new ICTC campus director, Nick Carter. Carter said, "I have worked at the Stillwell campus for the past five years, but I am happy to be closer to home and here at the Sallisaw ICTC campus."

Girdner continued by announcing the August chamber member of the month, Rick Nicholson, owner and operator of A-OK printing.

Nicholson’s father started the company in 1982 and taught Rick the value of hard work through the complexities of surviving as a small business in a growing corporate atmosphere. Almost 40 years have passed since A-OK Printing first opened its doors, and Nicholson continues to operate the business and serve the community of Sallisaw with the same passion as his father had decades ago.
