Sallisaw Chamber Recognizes Akins Store, Announces Upcoming Community Events

Thursday, November 5, 2026 — The Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce recognized a local business, welcomed a CASA for Children representative and announced upcoming community events during its monthly membership meeting Wednesday, October 28.
Among the events announced was the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner, scheduled for Wednesday, November 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sallisaw Middle School. The meal is free and open to the public.
The Merchants Christmas Open House is set for November 14-15, followed by the annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony November 19 at 6 p.m. on the Library Lawn. The Sallisaw Christmas Parade will take place December 12 with the theme "All Americana Christmas."
Veterans Day activities also were discussed. The American Legion will host a veterans program and flag retirement ceremony at Indian Capital Technology Center at 11 a.m. Eastside Elementary will also hold two Veterans Day programs at 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The Chamber named Brooke and Seth Lattimore, owners of Akins Store, as its October Members of the Month.
The Lattimore's have owned the business since December 2020. Akins Store offers a combination of general merchandise, feed supplies, barbecue, live music and event space.
In October 2024, the couple expanded the business with the opening of The Lower Feed Room, featuring additional restaurant seating, an expanded kitchen and an event stage that has hosted local, regional and national performers. The business has since become a popular barbecue and entertainment destination in the River Valley.

Jenny Crosby, Training and Outreach Coordinator for CASA for Children, served as the meeting's keynote speaker. Crosby has held the position for 11 years, working to recruit and prepare volunteers to advocate for children and educate communities about CASA's mission.
CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, is a nonprofit organization that recruits, trains and supports volunteers who advocate for children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Volunteers work to ensure children's needs and best interests are represented while they navigate the foster care system.
