Oklahoma Voters to Decide on Minimum Wage Increase

Tuesday, May 12, 2026 —This summer, voters across Oklahoma will have the opportunity to express their opinions on State Question 832, which is set to be included on the statewide ballot on June 16, 2026. All registered Oklahoma voters will be eligible to vote on the proposal.

If approved, the measure would gradually raise Oklahoma’s minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2029. The proposal would increase the state’s current minimum wage in phases over the coming years and would tie future increases to inflation after reaching $15 per hour.

State Question 832 would also expand minimum wage coverage to some workers currently exempt under state law, including certain students, minors, and part-time employees.

Under the proposal, Oklahoma’s minimum wage would increase from the current $7.25 per hour to $9 in 2027, $10.50 in 2028, $12 in 2029, and eventually $15 per hour. After reaching $15, future increases would be adjusted annually based on inflation.

The proposal has generated discussion among workers, employers, and business organizations across the state.

Some business owners and industry groups have raised concerns about the potential impact higher labor costs could have on operating expenses, staffing levels, and consumer prices. Rural businesses and small employers have been among those voicing concerns about how the increases could affect long-term budgeting and payroll costs.

The proposal has sparked discussions about part-time and entry-level jobs, which high school students often hold. Some employers have stated that higher wage requirements could influence hiring decisions for entry-level positions, while others say higher wages could benefit students who work to help pay for gas, school expenses, or household costs.

Supporters of the proposal have pointed to rising living expenses and wages in neighboring states as reasons for increasing Oklahoma’s minimum wage.

Oklahoma voters will decide whether to approve or reject State Question 832 during the June 16 statewide election.
