Oklahoma's tax free weekend starts today


Friday, August 6, 2021 - Oklahoma’s annual sales tax holiday begins today and ends Sunday at midnight.


Scheduled each year during the first weekend in August this savings event is planned just in time for back-to-school shopping. During this holiday, sales taxes will not be applied to most clothing items under $100.


According to the Oklahoma Tax Commission, items that are eligible for the tax-free weekend include, but are not limited to:

  • Aprons for both household and shopping

  • Baby blankets

  • Bathing suits and caps

  • Belts

  • Boots, shoes, socks, sandals and insoles

  • Coats, scarves, jackets and rainwear

  • Diapers for children and adults, including disposable diapers

  • Formal wear, neckties and wedding apparel

  • Gloves, mittens, hats, earmuffs and caps

  • Underwear

  • Uniforms, athletic and non-athletic


The sales tax holiday does not apply to “accessories,” which may include but is not limited to:

  • Handbags

  • Jewelry

  • Luggage

  • Rental wear

  • Umbrellas

  • Wallets

  • Watches

The savings applies to both in-store and online purchases.
