Monday, August 30, 2021 - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is offering a free safety course to all boat operators.
The class will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Cleveland Fire Department.
Pre-registration for the class is required and there must be 12 people registered to host the class. To register for the class by text or for more information, contact Trooper Ryan Griffith at (405) 795-0498.
State law requires any person age 12-16 that operates any boat with a motor of 10 hp or greater, a motorboat or sailboat 16 feet or greater in length or a personal watercraft to successfully complete a boating safety education course before operating that watercraft.
This 8-hour course is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and meets the requirements to be certified across the United States. The course is also open to all disciplines of emergency responders and accrues 8 hours of CLEET and/or CE credits with OSU Fire Services.
Most insurance companies offer discounts for boat owners who have successfully completed this course.
