Tuesday, October 26, 2021 - The Sallisaw Now Coalition (SNC) kickstarted Red Ribbon week on Monday with a proclamation signing at Stanley Tubbs Memorial Library. Sallisaw Mayor Ernie Martens signed the proclamation declaring Oct. 25-Oct.31 Red Ribbon Week in Sallisaw.
Red Ribbon Week is held the last week of October every year. The purpose of Red Ribbon week is to create community awareness regarding the dangers of drug and alcohol use. Several local schools recognize and celebrate this week by creating a weekly calendar of fun activities and events for students to engage in throughout the week.
This year SNC and People Inc. purchased items to be distributed to schools in Sequoyah County to assist in promoting the message “Drug Free is the Way to Be.”
Board members, staff and community organizations joined youth coalitions from Sallisaw, Gans and Central Public Schools for the Red Ribbon week proclamation signing.
