Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021 - In the next couple of weeks, Sallisaw basketball players of all ages will have a brand-new court to "hoop" on at Alex Denton Park.
Keith Miller, the building development director for the City of Sallisaw, said a contractor and his crew arrived at the park at 6 a.m. Tuesday to pour the concrete for the court.
Miller said if all goes as planned, once the concrete is set, city crews will set the last two anchors for the goals, lay down the stripes and “hopefully in about two to three weeks,” the court will be open for players.
The park is named for a former science teacher at Sallisaw Junior High School, Miller said. Alex Denton “was a wonderful, wonderful man,” he said, “and he was much loved in this community.”
Miller said he is proud to see such projects taking shape and to be directly involved in making them happen. “There's a ton of projects going on in this community. It's all for our kids. They're our future.”
