Muskogee man drowns at Lake Tenkiller


Monday, July 19, 2021 - A 36-year-old Muskogee man drowned Sunday at Lake Tenkiller, about six miles southeast of Keys in Cherokee County.


Clifton Dean Youngblood had reportedly jumped off a boat at Burnt Cabin Bluffs and started to swim.


Witnesses said he began to struggle, went underwater and never resurfaced. Youngblood's body was recovered at 6:30 p.m. Sunday by the Cherokee Nation Marshals' Dive Team using side-scan sonar.


The Oklahoma Highway Patrol's Marine Enforcement Division, Cookson Fire Department, Cherokee Nation EMS and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office assisted in the search.
