Medication Take Back Event planned for October 28 at Clif's Pharmacy

Monday, October 17, 2022 - The Sallisaw NOW Coalition (SNC) is hosting a medication take back day on Friday, October 28.

Clif’s Pharmacy in Sallisaw will be the host site for the event that will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event is part of the "National Drug Take Back Day," which occurs twice a year. The purpose of National Drug Take Back Day is to encourage, assist, and educate individuals on ways to safely dispose of medications.

When medications are not disposed of properly, they can pose significant health dangers to others. If a child were to access the medication, they could quickly overdose by thinking its candy. Another problem is the medication could fall into the hands of someone attempting to illegally sell it.

SNC staff will be present during the take back event to assist in the disposal of medications regardless of whether they are prescribed, over the counter, expired, or no longer needed.

The organization also provides resources to residents of Sequoyah County at no charge. This includes the safe storage of prescriptions with medication lock boxes and prescription drug disposal packets.

Sequoyah County medication takeback drop off locations can be found at the Gore, Sallisaw, and Roland Police Departments. In addition, the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics provides takeback kiosks at the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Department and the Muldrow police department.
