Monday, August 15, 2022 - A Stilwell man was charged Aug. 4 with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, a felony that could land him in prison for up to five years.

Joshua Eddy Kelch, 43, could also face a fine of up to $2,500 or a minimum of 28 days of treatment followed by 30 days of aftercare at the defendant’s expense.

According to a probable cause affidavit, on July 30, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper arrived on the scene of a two-car collision at 9:05 p.m. When he got there, the trooper noticed a gray Chevrolet Impala and a white Buick Lucerne.

The trooper went to speak with the Buick’s driver, Kelch, who reportedly had red, watery and bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and had a strong odor of alcohol.

The trooper asked Kelch three times for his driver’s license. He finally had Kelch exit his vehicle and reported that the man was visibly staggering as they were walking back to the trooper’s patrol car.

Kelch failed several field-sobriety tests and he refused to take a breath test. He was subsequently arrested.
