Wednesday, October 25, 2023 - A two-year-old girl was killed Monday in a shooting incident that took place in Roland.
Monday morning Roland police responded to a residence in the area of Loop West where they found the child and her father both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both were transported to a local hospital where the father underwent surgery and is expected to recover. The daughter did not survive.
District Attorney Jack Thorp stated that he consulted with the Roland Police Department following the incident. The OSBI is also aiding in the investigation to determine exactly what happened.
"The two-year-old passed away from what we believe to be a gunshot wound. The autopsy should have taken place late yesterday or sometime today and those results will be forwarded to me upon completion, Thorp stated. "We do anticipate at some point a criminal investigation will take place. This is such a terrible tragedy and I am monitoring the situation very closely."
Authorities are not releasing the names of the victims or of any potential suspects at this time.
