Inmate Death Reported at Sequoyah County Detention Center

Friday, September 12, 2025 — At approximately 2:30 a.m. today, detention staff at the Sequoyah County Detention Center discovered a 43-year-old female inmate unresponsive in her cell. Staff immediately initiated emergency procedures and contacted emergency medical services.

Officials confirmed there were no apparent signs of injury or trauma. The inmate, who had been in custody for about three weeks, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) and the State Medical Examiner’s Office responded and have assumed responsibility for the investigation. The body has been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.

No further details are being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin and the ongoing investigation.
