Monday, May 22, 2023 - A new four-legged deputy recently joined the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Department's K-9 program.
The canine goes by the name "Lena" and is a 5-month-old Doberman. Lena was donated to the Sheriff's Department by Tyler Knoke and Knoke European Dobermans. "Lena is currently undergoing internal training provided by Sequoyah County Sheriff's deputy Colton Goff. Lena will train for 12–18 months, preparing for the many tasks she will soon take on," Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane said. Although her first day on the job has yet to be established, Lena has already been assigned to work alongside her partner and handler, Sequoyah County Deputy Austin Blackfox. The duo will work together to provide interdiction and apprehension services, which will contribute to keeping the county safe and drug-free. "The sheriff's department is grateful for the donation of Lena. She is a very smart pup who loves to work, and we are excited to watch her grow." Lane added.
