Friday, June 6, 2025— Residents across Sequoyah County and surrounding areas woke up to a frightening scene Friday morning as tornado sirens blared, warning of severe weather moving through the area. The fast-moving storm left behind significant damage, including downed trees, toppled power lines, and damaged homes and buildings across the county.

Sequoyah County Commissioner for District 3, Jim Rogers, shared photos of the storm damage sustained at the District 3 county barn following Friday morning’s severe weather. According to Rogers, the district was hit especially hard, with strong winds toppling trees and scattering debris throughout the area. Cleanup efforts are already underway as crews work to assess the damage and restore access in the affected locations.

Just north of Roland, additional storm damage was reported by the Liberty Fire Department. The fire department shared photos on its Facebook page capturing the extent of the destruction, which included downed trees, scattered debris, and structural damage to roofs and buildings.

While these two areas were hit particularly hard, they were not the only ones affected, as additional reports of damage continue to come in from across the county as cleanup efforts continue.

The National Weather Service is warning residents to stay weather-aware for the next couple of days as more storms are expected to impact the region over the weekend. Officials recommend having an emergency plan in place, staying informed through local weather alerts, and taking necessary precautions to stay safe during severe weather events.
