DUI arrest made following wreck

Updated: Jun 30, 2023

Saturday, June 24, 2023 - A Vian man was charged June 19 with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, a felony punishable by a fine of up to $2,500 and up to five years in prison, or a minimum of 28 days of treatment followed by 30 days of aftercare at the defendant’s expense.

Ryan Paul Sandmeyer, 38, was in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 64 and County Road N. 4570.

When an Oklahoma Highway Trooper arrived at the scene, he noticed two vehicles that had crashed through a barbed-wire fence.

The trooper wrote that upon his investigation, the driver who caused the accident (Sandmeyer) was unresponsive at the scene and smelled strongly of alcohol.

Upon further investigation it was determined that Sandmeyer was driving with his passenger side tires off the west side of the road, coming south on County Road N. 4570. Sandmeyer ran the stop sign and was struck on the vehicle’s passenger side.

A felony warrant was issued for Sandmeyer's arrest on June 15, 2023.
