Commissioners Receive Recognition for Supporting Victims and Families


Monday, June 8, 2026 —The Sequoyah County Commissioners received a special recognition during their regular meeting Monday morning at the Sequoyah County Courthouse.

 

Cindy Smith of the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Department, accompanied by members of the Coordinated Community Response (CCR) Team and Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), attended the meeting to express appreciation for the commissioners' continued support of efforts that raise awareness and provide resources for youth and families affected by sexual assault, domestic violence, and other traumatic circumstances.

During the presentation, Smith thanked the commissioners for their partnership and commitment to promoting education, prevention, and community awareness throughout Sequoyah County. She also emphasized the teams' dedication to serving victims and strengthening support systems for individuals and families in need.



As a token of appreciation, each commissioner was presented with a plaque recognizing their ongoing support and advocacy for programs that help increase awareness and improve services for county residents.

 

The presentation highlighted the importance of collaboration between local government, law enforcement, and community organizations in addressing issues that impact the safety and well-being of youth and families across Sequoyah County.
