Commissioners Proclaim OHCE Week, Approve Contracts and Appointments

Thursday, May 8, 2025 — The Sequoyah County Board of Commissioners declared May 5–11 as Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE) Week during their regularly scheduled weekly meeting on Monday.

The proclamation honors the contributions of OHCE, a statewide organization affiliated with Oklahoma State University and OSU Extension. Local OHCE members focus on developing leadership, supporting families, and enhancing community well-being through education and outreach.

In other business, the board approved an agreement between Sequoyah County District #1 and resident Steven Skeens to allow work on private property. Commissioners also voted to renew the FY 2026 contract with the State of Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs, ensuring continued services and support for youth in the county.

The meeting's new business section approved several personnel and administrative actions. These included an updated Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) agreement and the resignation of George Boreman from the Sequoyah County 911 Trust Authority Board. The board moved quickly to fill the vacancy, appointing Bobby Qualls as Boreman’s replacement.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the Sequoyah County Courthouse.
