City of Sallisaw Chunk Your Junk taking place April 15

Thursday, April 6, 2023 - The City of Sallisaw is hosting a Chunk Your Junk day on April 15 at the Sallisaw Electric Department.

The event is for Sallisaw residential customers who live within the city limits. City staff will be on site and require residents to provide a copy of their utility bill prior to disposing of waste.

Customers will be responsible for unloading and separating waste into the appropriate dumpsters provided. All materials must originate on residential property and be easily handled.

Residents are asked to bag items as much as possible and separate all metal. No heavy items that require equipment or shoveling to unload, such as rocks and dirt, will be accepted.

Accepted items include: bagged leaves, small plants, metal, wood and lumber, landscaping materials, furniture, bedding, cans, and bundled cardboard. Small appliances will only be accepted if the coolant or refrigerant has been removed.

Items not accepted include: brush, construction debris, shingles, commercial trash, hazardous waste or free-flowing liquids, batteries, paint, oil, cooking oil, fuel, chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, cleaning products, pharmaceuticals, and butane or propane tanks. Tires or other heavy rubber-type materials will also not be accepted.

All items must fit in a normal half-ton truck bed with no side rails. Trailers up to 16 feet with no side rails will be allowed; however, all loads are subject to being turned away based on contents and weight. To see the city’s rules, go to www.sallisawok.org/.

The Sallisaw Electric Department is located at 213 W. Quesenbury St.
