Wednesday, January 26, 2022 - Prom is just around the corner, and high school girls have already started to plan their big day. Looking for that perfect dress can be difficult for many, especially when that dress comes with a not-so-perfect price tag. Luckily, a local resource, "Cinderella for Prom," is here to help make this process a lot smoother for those in need.
The purpose of "Cinderella for Prom" is to help girls who may not have the ability to afford their perfect day.
Dawn Rutherford, Founder of Cinderella for Prom, said, "I started Cinderella for Prom in 2019 because I wanted to give all girls the opportunity to experience at least one day where they felt like Cinderella without the added worry of how much it would cost."
The organization now has well over 400 dresses, shoes, accessories, hair and makeup products ready to make this a memorable experience for all.
Rutherford said, "When I first launched my idea, I had tons of volunteers, but then COVID hit, and we haven’t been able to do much since then. With that being said, I will definitely need volunteers for this year’s event, including anyone who would be willing to assist with hair, nails, makeup, or donate dresses."
Anyone is eligible to participate, although Rutherford’s main focus is on Sequoyah County girls. "I won’t turn anyone away," Rutherford added.
At this time, the group hasn’t determined exact dates or locations for the main event, but those details will be released in the near future.
To set up a time to look through dresses, you can contact Dawn Rutherford at 918-316-0740, or you can reach out to her on Facebook. You can also go to Pure Chaos, located at 202 E Cherokee Ave, Sallisaw, and talk to Sandy Perkins, who stores all the dresses at her location.
Pure Chaos is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 to 3:30.
