Tuesday, December 30, 2025 — The Cherokee Nation is demonstrating how modern technology can strengthen cultural preservation and improve health outcomes with the launch of two new mobile applications designed to serve citizens of all ages.
The recent releases include a Cherokee Language Dictionary mobile app and the Cherokee Nation Rx prescription management app, both reflecting the tribe’s commitment to honoring tradition while embracing innovation.
“In today’s age, when technology can often leave us feeling disconnected from our cultural roots, Cherokee Nation is proving that innovation and tradition can go hand in hand, especially when it comes to supporting our elders, our first-language speakers, and our families,” said Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr.
The newly launched Cherokee Language Dictionary app builds upon the foundational work of the late Cherokee linguist Durbin Feeling. The Cherokee-to-English app features a searchable database of more than 6,000 words, audio recordings, and biographical information about first-language speakers, making the Cherokee language accessible to citizens around the world.
“These tools are powerful, not just for their convenience, but for the way they connect our community,” Hoskin said. “From elders reminiscing about their first words to young families exploring the syllabary together, this app bridges generations and helps repropagate the Cherokee language, which is the cornerstone of our cultural heritage.”
In addition to the dictionary, speakers can also access the Cherokee Book of Praise mobile app, which allows users to read New Testament passages and hymn lyrics directly from their phones, further integrating the Cherokee language into everyday life.
Alongside cultural preservation, the Cherokee Nation is also leveraging technology to improve health and wellness. The Cherokee Nation Rx mobile app enables patients of Cherokee Nation Health Services to manage prescriptions anytime and anywhere. Features include refill reminders and pharmacy notifications, helping elders, caregivers, and busy families stay on track with critical medications.
“For families caring for loved ones with complex medical needs, these tools reduce barriers to care,” Hoskin said. “It is a simple but meaningful way we can use technology to improve health outcomes for our people.”
Together, the app launches reflect a holistic approach to meeting the needs of Cherokee citizens, supporting language learners, honoring elders, and improving access to healthcare services.
“By centering the needs of our citizens, we are blending tradition with innovation,” Hoskin said. “We are moving forward together, ensuring a stronger, healthier Cherokee Nation for generations to come.”
